David Gibson’s guest lecture at the Design study programme – Tuesday, January 10

We invite all our design, multimedia, and digital marketing students to David Gibson's guest lecture "Finding My Way in Design".  The lecture will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 18.45 - 20.15 in the Nikola Tesla hall as part of the Public visual communications design course taught by lecturer Iva Babaja.

Our head of the study Siniša Bogdanović, Ph.D., will introduce one of the world's greatest design experts. Through his lecture, David will present students with some of the most outstanding works in his tireless career from prestigious institutions such as Harvard or stunning cities such as Dubai.

Many of our students have already encountered the work of this world-renowned expert in design through lectures since his book ''The Wayfinding Handbook: Information Design for Public Places'' is a significant part of the curriculum. This book, published by Princeton Architectural Press, is the result of the author's expertise gained designing information systems and signaling systems for cities, cultural institutions, and prestigious universities such as Harvard, Princeton, and Yale.

His work has helped shape cities from Dubai to Los Angeles, and this year David Gibson will celebrate the 54th anniversary of his design career.

He started his inspiring career as an undergraduate at the American Cornell School of Architecture. David continued his education by studying visual communications at the Canadian Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He earned his MFA in Graphic Design from Yale University.

David continued his work as one of the co-founders of the world-renowned graphic design consultancy Two Twelve, based in New York.

He holds workshops and lectures on the discipline and value of design in educational institutions and industry associations around the world. Also, he was a member, board member, and president of various respected design societies, such as the Society for Experiential Graphic Design, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Public Policy Lab, and Art House Productions.

David recently retired from the active management of Two Twelve and now lives in Rome. He is engaged in gardening but also baking. He studied at some of the leading American culinary schools.

Since moving to Italy, he began learning watercolor painting, thus opening the door to a new type of creative expression.
