Algebra International Summer School 2024 was successfully organized over four weeks, with eight dynamic modules in two beautiful cities, with 120 passionate students.
From the vibrant streets of Zagreb to the stunning coastal landscapes of Šibenik, students not only expanded their knowledge but also forged lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
The summer school kicked off in Zagreb, where students were treated to a guided city tour, a visit to A1 Hrvatska d.o.o. – one of the biggest telecom providers in Croatia, and a day of exploration at Medvednica Mountain, which offers breathtaking views over the capital.
In the third week, our summer school adventure continued at the coastal town of Šibenik, a place known for its charm, history, and proximity to natural wonders. Students got to follow their regular classes while soaking up the sun and visiting the idyllic Island of Prvić, exploring the picturesque town of Skradin, and marveling at the stunning Krka National Park in their free time.
One of the staples of the Algebra International Summer School is its diverse range of modules in IT, marketing and communications, each designed to cater to various interests and fields of study.
In our Data-Driven Storytelling module, students mastered Tableau, a powerful tool for data visualization. As one student reflected, “The Data Visualization class was a game-changer for me as a data analyst. We dove deep into Tableau, mastering its tools and functionalities. Tableau is a powerhouse in the data world and learning it has opened up so many opportunities for me. Companies everywhere are leveraging Tableau for its incredible ability to transform raw data into meaningful insights.”
Students had the opportunity to delve into AI in our Artificial Intelligence module and explore a field transforming industries worldwide. Students explored machine learning, linear regression, and even developed practical AI applications. One student shared, “The AI class was equally transformative. We explored machine learning and linear regression, both crucial for my growth as a data analyst. I even developed a chatbot for a hotel, which was an exciting and practical project that showcased the real-world applications of AI.” This hands-on approach allowed students to gain practical experience and see firsthand how AI can revolutionize industries.
For those interested in technology and security, the Cyber Security program offered a deep dive into penetration testing, cryptography, and ethical hacking.
Beyond the technical courses, our students also got a chance to attend the Creativity & Storytelling for Marketers module and learn how to craft compelling brand narratives. This program not only enhanced their marketing skills but also taught them the importance of storytelling in connecting with audiences.
In the Game Design module, students developed comprehensive Game Design Documents, learning the intricacies of creating engaging interactive experiences. As one student fondly recalled, “I’ll keep in mind for a very long time what Igor said over and over again, ‘Never think It goes without saying when doing a game.'” This insight, among many others, will undoubtedly guide them in their future endeavors.
Meanwhile, the Wireless Communication Networks custom module allowed EPITA students to explore network concepts, deepening their understanding of the infrastructure that powers our connected world.
Cultural immersion was a key component of the summer school experience, with students participating in Croatian Language and Culture modules. Falmouth University students enjoyed an immersive custom-made program, where they learned the basics of Croatian and explored the country’s rich history, geography, and cuisine. Reflecting on this experience, one student said, “During the summer school, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in Croatian culture and language. I learned the basics of Croatian, explored its rich history, geography, and cuisine.” These experiences broadened students’ perspectives and deepened their appreciation for Croatia’s vibrant culture.
The international aspect of the program was also a highlight, bringing together students from all over the world and creating a truly diverse learning environment. As one student expressed, “Living in Croatia was an unforgettable experience. The culture is vibrant and the cities are beautiful, with rich history and warm people. Working and organizing community events with people from around the world was not only enriching but also crucial for my career development.”
