Imagine a future where Croatia is at the forefront of space exploration and technology. With the launch of the “Education 4 Space 4 Croatia” project, that future is closer than ever. This innovative project, funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and spearheaded by Algebra University, the Eviden Global Delivery Center and OIKON as a subcontracting partner, aims to revolutionise Croatia’s engagement with the space sector over the next 24 months, starting in March 2024.

Bridging the Gap in Space Education

Croatia has missed opportunities in the rapidly growing space industry for too long due to a lack of structured educational programs and industry awareness. “Education 4 Space 4 Croatia” is set to change this by developing and piloting two comprehensive study courses on space themes at Algebra University. These courses, each offering 4-6 ECTS credits, will be meticulously designed to meet both Croatian and European qualification frameworks. The project will involve mapping the needs of the Croatian market and gathering insights from focus groups that include SMEs, alumni, and current students to ensure the courses are relevant and impactful.

Fostering Industry Collaboration

One of the project’s key strengths is its focus on enhancing cooperation between academia and the space industry. By partnering with Eviden, a prominent player in Croatia’s space industry, and leveraging the expertise of OIKON, the project ensures that its educational offerings are deeply aligned with industry needs. This collaboration extends to practical training, with selected students gaining invaluable experience through internships at Eviden. These internships will allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, under the mentorship of seasoned industry professionals.

Igniting Space Entrepreneurship

Beyond education, “Education 4 Space 4 Croatia” aims to inspire and cultivate a new wave of space entrepreneurs. The project emphasizes the importance of space entrepreneurship by demonstrating the overlap between existing Croatian technologies and those used in the global space industry. This approach not only raises awareness but also motivates students and young professionals to explore careers and opportunities within the space sector.

Why It Matters?

The impact of this project is multifaceted. Firstly, it addresses a critical gap in Croatia’s educational landscape, providing structured, high-quality courses that prepare students for the demands of the space industry. Secondly, by fostering strong industry-academia partnerships, the project creates a pipeline of skilled professionals ready to drive innovation and competitiveness in the global space market. Lastly, it positions Croatia to capitalize on the economic growth and technological advancements associated with the burgeoning space industry.

“Education 4 Space 4 Croatia” is not just an educational initiative; it’s a bold step towards making Croatia a significant player in the global space arena. By equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the space industry, and by fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, this project is set to propel Croatia towards a bright and promising future in space exploration and technology.
