Digital transformation is the process of changing traditional or starting new business initiatives in a creative way, using social, mobile and other digital technologies. This process requires a change in leadership, the encouragement of an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to business, and the intensive use of available technologies.

The current way of doing business will certainly not provide a good enough response to the demands of digital transformation. Organizations will have to change, and the changes will have to include a number of equally important elements. Business strategies will necessarily have to encompass the transformation of the entire organization, which will require much more than just the implementation of new technologies.

New business systems

The paradigm shift and transformation of communication technologies has led to numerous changes in corporate structures. We live in an age of instant communication and feedback, reverse supply chains and agile market responses. Traditional hierarchies are turning into wirearchies in which the emphasis is no longer on hierarchy and supervision from above, but on encouraging and channeling the energy of employees. At the same time, organizations are radically changing their systems to create multi-functional teams and self-organized matrix groups of collaborators who work with a division of responsibilities.

This unique combination of economic and technological factors changed the world of business and caused radical changes in entire industries and societies. In raising business systems to a new level, it is not just about adding business in the cloud or upgrading collaboration platforms for social or mobile collaboration to existing systems, but about the complete transformation of business systems in parallel with changes in the organization, from bottom to top. Digital technology leads to disruptions that go far beyond just economics or manufacturing. We are talking about a much wider scope of changes related to the systemic transformation of the foundations of our civilization, to civil society, government structures and our identity. We call the changes we are talking about the fourth industrial revolution .

e-Leadership in the context of digital transformation

We believe that e-management is a key ingredient of a business strategy to stimulate competitiveness and innovation potential by using new digital technologies.

E-leadership skills are the skills needed to drive and achieve digital innovation and transformation. For each individual, they include and can be described as:

  • Strategic leadership : possesses new types of soft skills, leads an interdisciplinary team of employees, influences stakeholders across functional and geographic boundaries,
  • Business knowledge : introduces innovations in business and operational models, thereby providing added value to organizations,
  • Digital competences : has the ability to imagine and encourage changes in business, using trends in digital technology as an opportunity for innovation.
