ABOUT:
Dr. Scott Whiteford is Director of Leadership Development and Analytics for Talent Plus.
Dr. Whiteford graduated Magna Cum Laude in Sociology from Luther College. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with emphases in quantitative methods, social structures and criminology. He also teaches a class on the Sociology of Leadership at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
As a Visiting Instructor of Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Dr. Whiteford teaches a class on the sociology of leadership. In the class, he incorporates aspects of business, psychology, economics, and historical studies. The course will focus on what sociology discusses topics such as stratification, race, gender, education, and government, and focuses on the intersection of individual leadership talents, group dynamics, social structures, and time and place.
As Director of Leadership Development and Analytics for Talent Plus, Dr. Whiteford enjoys analyzing leadership talent, human behavior, and social structures. For the past 22 years, he has studied leaders, their teams, and their organizations through quantitative and qualitative processes (including factor analyses, OLS regression, structural equation models, focus groups, and one-on-one interviews). He has a passion for helping develop leaders through a strengths-management approach and building companies from a human capital perspective.
Focusing on leaders, he utilizes solutions that help companies develop and retain strong leaders, and grow their teams, through understanding the leader’s strengths, the talent of his or her team, and by creating individualized goals, actionable processes, and measurable objectives. He also implements strategies for teams to work together for cohesive, results-based outcomes.
Focusing on organizations, he helps build companies through developing a vision, a mission, core values, and competencies. As a trusted advisor, he facilitates strategy sessions, works with companies to select and develop strong employees, and helps them establish a culture of success using my expertise in sociology and positive psychology.
Dr. Whiteford lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Michelyn, and daughter, Audrey, and enjoys spending his free time writing, hiking and running.
