Algebra Bernays University, in partnership with the Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP), is proud to announce the launch of the Excellence Award.

This initiative recognizes three outstanding undergraduate or graduate students from Algebra Bernays University, awarding each a scholarship of 1,000 USD. Students eligible for the award stand out for their academic excellence and achievements, contributing to the advancement of educational, social, and international excellence and quality. The necessary prerequisites for application are prescribed by the Book of Regulations on Fee Exemptions.

About ACAP

The Association of Croatian American Professionals (ACAP) is a global network of 2,000 professionals from business and academia. Since 2014, ACAP has fostered collaboration among Croatian-American professionals in the United States and beyond, promoting idea exchange and supporting initiatives that preserve the cultural heritage and unique traits of both nations. ACAP is an independent, nonprofit, apolitical, and non-religious organization dedicated to advancing professional development, youth education, cultural exchange, economic interests, and humanitarian activities.

Selected candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with ACAP and Algebra Bernays University on projects and initiatives, furthering Croatian-American cooperation and fostering new opportunities that strengthen ties between the two countries.

What are the application requirements?

The right to a scholarship have students who are enrolled as full-time or part-time students in higher years of any study programme at Algebra Bernays University. The right to a scholarship is not available to students who have entered a moratorium on their student obligations in the academic year in which the competition is held.

To be eligible for the Excellence Award, candidates must meet following general conditions:

  1. Having all modules of the previous year of the same studies passed
  2. Having a minimum grade point average of 4.0 in the previous academic year
  3. Having all financial obligations settled
  4. Having a Croatian nationality
  5. Being enrolled as a full-time or part-time student in higher years of any study programme at Algebra Bernays University

GPA Scoring:

Academic excellence is evaluated according to the grade point average of the courses taken in the previous academic year. Points are earned for the grade point average of the courses taken in the previous year as follows:

  1. a) for a grade point average of 4.91 to 5.00 – 40 points,
  2. b) for a grade point average of 4.81 to 4.90 – 30 points,
  3. c) for a grade point average of 4.51 to 4.80 – 20 points,
  4. d) for a grade point average of 4.00 to 4.50 – 10 points.

Additional Selection Criteria (maximum of 20 additional points)

Additional points will be given to candidates actively participating in the following bodies of Algebra Bernays University:

  • Student Union
  • Senate of Algebra Bernays University
  • Quality Committee
  • Ethics Committee and Disciplinary Board

Bonus points may also be awarded for involvement in:

  • Student Coordination Activities
  • Buddy Program
  • Student/Mentor Program
  • Programme committees for the development of new study programmes or for the development of changes to existing study progammes
  • Playing the role of student ombudsperson

Required Documentation

Candidates are required to submit:

  1. The completed application form at the provided link with accurate information, which must include:
    1. Personal data
    2. Grade point average in the previous academic year
    3. Essay written in English (up to 500 words) on the topic:

“Bridging Cultures: How Croatian-American Collaboration Can Drive Innovation in [Your Field of Study].”

  1. Achievements:
    1. Statement of participation in Student Union, Senate of Algebra Bernays University, Quality Committee, Ethics Committee and Disciplinary Board
    2. Statement of participation in Student Coordination Activities, Buddy Program, our student/Mentor Program, Program committees for the development of new study programmes or for the development of changes to existing study progammes, playing the role of student ombudperson

The committee will verify all submitted information and determine its accuracy.

Applications are open until January 19, 2025, at 11:59 PM CET. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Results Announcement

The ranked list of candidates and winners will be published on Algebra Bernays University’s official website and Infoeduka on January 24, 2025.

The Excellence Award includes:

  • A one time financial incentive of $1,000 USD.
