29.5.2025. – „At the table on friendship: From FOMO to JOMO“

Remember that belief that at 18+ you’d have an enviable social life and know how to balance it with education, work, and other responsibilities, interests, hobbies, and time for yourself?

That you’d successfully maintain close friendships, easily meet new people, and never feel lonely?

If these ideas are still just imaginary friends to you, join us for a workshop on friendship and relationships that will take place on Thursday, 29 May 2025 at 5:00 PM – Hall A9 Marko Marulić.

One of the modern issues that prevails today (especially among adolescents and young adults) is the fear of missing out—better known as FOMO. It’s the anxiety that arises from the belief that we’re missing out on significant (usually collective) experiences, like going out with friends. Scrolling through social media only makes it worse, of course.

On the other hand, there’s also the joy of missing out—JOMO, which embraces “media detox,” living in the moment, and time for yourself—because, as we’ll explain during the workshop, being alone is not the same as being lonely.

In this interactive workshop, we’ll talk about creating and maintaining close friendships in the context of the modern age, marked by the omnipresence of technology, as well as finding a healthy balance between social life, responsibilities, obligations, and time for yourself. You’ll also get practical guidelines on how to overcome FOMO—and maybe even decide to embrace JOMO.

The deadline to register for the workshop is 28 May 2025 by 11 AM and the number of spots is limited, so hurry up and register at the following link:
