Jigisha (Jane) Himanshu Shah is a second year Master-level student of Digital Marketing at Algebra University from India.
I wanted to travel to Croatia for a long time, but somehow it never happened before. Now I am a student in my late forties and doing a Master’s degree in Digital Marketing. Happy beginning!
I started to plan for my studies in June 2021 and I was looking for a practical way of approaching studying. I found out about Algebra University while searching online. When I learned that this university is in Zagreb, Croatia, my interest level went up as everyone talks about how beautiful the country is. I did some research online and approached the university with my expression of interest. Since day one, the colleagues at the International Office have been incredibly supportive, and everything ran smoothly from the university side.
It took around 3 months to complete the paperwork and formalities from India because of changes in legislation so I had to miss the classes in the first semester. I would suggest anyone wanting to go abroad to plan at least 4 months in advance. There were rules lately introduced and it delayed the process. Well, I advise talking to experts and knowing the rules for each country in advance.
Finding accommodation here is not as much a challenge as it is a tourist country and the local people in Croatia are warm and supportive. However, it is important that you plan accommodation in advance, especially if it is tourist season. Prices shoot up during summertime.
Croatia is a friendly and warm society. They believe in a work-life balance so life here is not stressful. Many tourist destinations are just a few hours away by road, it is easy to take a break and move around. Every city has its own charm, and they celebrate the seasons with local festivals.
Most youngsters and middle-aged people here speak and understand English, so language is not an issue here, however it would be nice to learn the language, especially from the work perspective. Talents are appreciated and if you have talent, it is possible to find a job and make up for the expenses.
I am considering doing a PhD and if I get a good opportunity here, I will extend my stay and live for longer. It is a country to have a perfect work life balance.
I am fascinated by the beauty of the country, the hospitality of the people and the updated curriculum based on the needs of the hour. If you want such life, consider Croatia as your destination to study abroad. The country has much more to offer than degrees and career opportunities. Do plan and do not worry if the process is slow as long as you have done your part.
And, not to forget, Croatia has a particularly good Wi-Fi connection and speed.
