The research group covers a wide range of research interests and disciplinary areas addressing the needs and requirements of education in contemporary societies worldwide.

It conducts studies analysing labour market trends at international, national, local and sectoral levels, and carries out specific research for employers. The experience of the research group members allows for the relevant combination of data on economic trends, employment trends, education and skill supply as well as demographic changes, to help us understand the implications of these trends at the national level, as well as at the level of the region, sectors, the organisation or the workforce in general.

The group is characterised by extensive expertise in using key labour market datasets such as the labour force survey, annual population survey, surveys on individuals with higher education qualifications (graduate tracking), skills and employer needs surveys, official population censuses and understanding of society and other longitudinal datasets and panel results. Additionally, the group has experience in utilising information sources on students, such as student records or surveys on higher education learners and students as well as linking student data with information from benefit recipients or taxpayers, while fully respecting anonymity and data protection.

Another area of expertise includes qualification systems and quality assurance in education. The group is also capable of designing custom surveys and using a range of other methods (such as focus groups, workshops, interviews, literature reviews and scenario creation) to add depth and nuance to quantitative projections. The aim of the group’s research is to facilitate discussion on various aspects of education and the labour market and to promote research collaboration.
