Module overview:
The goals of this course are to enable students to:
an introduction to the key technological innovations that are changing financial services
gaining knowledge about the various participants in the FinTech ecosystem, including startups, traditional financial institutions and regulatory bodies
gaining knowledge about how FinTech creates new business models and how it changes traditional ones in the financial industry
The aim of the course FinTech 1: Transformation of financial services is to acquaint students with basic concepts and practices in the field of technological transformation of financial markets and services. FinTech refers to innovations in the financial sector that include technology and new business models capable of reshaping traditional ways of creating and distributing financial services. The course relies on previous courses from the financial and accounting vertical and provides students with a more detailed insight into new types of services that are the result of digital transformation in the domain of finance.
Students should take this course to develop the deep understanding and practical skills necessary for a career in the fast-growing FinTech sector. The course provides the knowledge needed to analyze and apply financial innovations and understand their impact on global financial services. Furthermore, this course provides the content basis for the course FInTech2: Blockchain and crypto-assets.
Students will learn about:
principles of FinTech and historical development
the FinTech ecosystem and the participants and their roles
main technologies in FinTech, such as blockchain, AI, big data, and cryptocurrencies
business models in FinTech
legal and ethical aspects in FinTech
financial inclusion, i.e. how FinTech promotes access to finance
innovations in banking services and payment transactions
the impact of FinTech on the global economy and markets
