Module title:
Introduction to digital imaging
Lecturers and associates:
Assistant Professor in Arts Predrag Šuka
Helena Bukovac, Lecturer
Irena Zrinščak, Senior Lecturer
Module overview:
This module introduces students to the basics of visual storytelling through manipulation of photographic media, raster images and optimization for multimedia solutions with the aim of visual change, change in visual messages or atmosphere.
The module is taught through the integration of research, practical knowledge and individual hands-on learning and problem solving. The module check is based on practical analysis and critical review in the form of a skill-based solution within the given examples, on individual student projects and homework with an individual approach. The individual student project is based on an individual practical approach to visual storytelling exclusively through the course of photo manipulation, post-processing and desired changes in visual communication.
This module is part of a group of media-related modules within the study, actively implementing student manipulations of raster image data (photographic images or computer-generated images). The skills learned in this module will significantly contribute to other future media-related modules.
Students will learn about:
• processes and frameworks for image manipulation
• data format and the impact of bit depth on post-production and photo manipulation
• photo forensics and the obstacles it represents
• destructive and non-destructive processing of raster images
• flexible workflow routine in image processing
• creating vector graphics and image integration
• optimization, use and performance of raster images, for example game environments, web SEO and the like.
