Module title:

Typography 2

Module overview:

The objective of this module is to enable students to:
• gain knowledge of the letterforms and spatial relationships between them in terms of legibility and aesthetics
• acquire various software tools and methods used for visual organization of letters and text

This module prepares students for understanding the importance of letterforms and text arrangements in visual communications and this module is project-work-based building on the learning of Typography 1. The module forms the vital core of the programme as it combines rules of letterforms and various typography usage for visual communication.

It is important for students to take this module in order to introduce students to fundamentals of arranging and creating letters and words into coherent bodies and text/grid systems. This module should also help students to understand the connection between specific typefaces and their purposes. Students will gain overall confidence in designing with characters, typefaces and text and this module will expose students to particular but important topics in typographic design.
