Module title:
3D design 1
Module overview:
This module introduces students to the fundamentals of 3D modelling.
Students will learn about:
• Introduction to the matter.
• Defining goals of the project.
• Creating and preparing the references.
• Division of references and the collection of detailed examples.
• Setting up the project.
• Basic principles of modelling.
• Elaboration of the example with various approaches.
• Research on the efficiency of the approach.
• Research on the usability of the approach.
• Defining topology and the influence on models and further elaborations.
• Planning tools for model modifications.
• Creating flexible model structures.
• Preparing for finishing the model outside of the three-dimensional space.
• Visual representation of the model.
The module is taught through integration of theory, know-how and individual practical learning and problem solving. The module assessment is based on analysis and critical review within personal project examples visible through the individual student projects, and homework with individual approach. Individual student project is based on an individual practical approach to 3D modelling, prototyping, and finalising of the chosen solution.
This module is not a part of the core of the study, but it provides an insight through
3-dimensional visual model creation, often used to portray design ideas, products and solutions. Skills learnt in this module will contribute significantly to other subsequent 3D modelling module.
