Introduction to research and academic writing

Module overview:


The aim of this course is to enable students to:
acquiring competences to think in a scientific way
selection and application of the optimal research methodology for a given problem
conducting research and analyzing and reporting on the processed data
Furthermore, the goals of the course are to acquaint students with the process, conventions and style of writing academic texts, and to enable them to critically present and refer to professional and scientific literature and select suitable research methods. This module contributes to the overall academic development of students and will prepare them for scientific and professional work.
Students will learn about:
key macroeconomic variables and the structure of the Croatian economy
how the policies of the European Union are reflected on the Croatian economy, including the common market and monetary policy.
analysis of structural changes within the Croatian economy, including industry, agriculture and the service sector
regional development and competitiveness of Croatia within the EU
macroeconomic variables in the pre-transition and post-transition period of Croatia
understanding of Croatia´s economic policy, including fiscal and monetary policy
the impact of globalization and European integration on the Croatian economy
developing analytical skills necessary for understanding and interpreting economic data and reports.
the capital market, including its function, development and role in the Croatian economy
long-term trends and comparative dynamics of the Croatian economy
