Lecturers and associates:
Module overview:
The aim of this course is to enable students to learn:
The role of visual aesthetics in the transmission of messages and the impact on the learning process
Integration of design, visual communications, cognitive understanding within the descriptive nature of aesthetics
Identify the spatiality of influence, map the aesthetic vocabulary and understand visual manipulation in the form of creating the desired expression
This course teaches key aspects of visual aesthetics and its impact on design and perception. Students will be introduced to the influence of form, function and functionality on the visual impression, as well as the influence of the scale of elements and weight on the perception of design. Special emphasis will be on the integration of the psychological influence of colours, light and shadow in creating emotions, and how these elements can shape the user´s experience.
Students will analyse and synthesize aesthetics from various examples throughout history within the entire spectrum of visual culture, learning how to distinguish and valorise personal aesthetic values in relation to the values of society. Through the course, students will also identify perceptions of social norms and tastes, and how these elements are reflected in design.
The course will encourage students to create the impact of change, question social, cultural and political paradigms, and develop the ability to create specific elements of aesthetics adapted to the specifics of the project and solutions. Students will refine their projects and solutions according to the given aesthetic direction, integrating changes and arguing the aesthetics of the final work.
