Module overview:
The objective of this module is to enable students to:
- gain a concise yet comprehensive overview of the fundamental information about history and theory of typography, necessary for effective typographic design practice
- better perform and understand typographic tasks for use in visual communications industry
It is important for students to take this module in order to introduce themselves to the fundamentals of typography. This module should help students to better perform and understand typographic tasks. Students will gain confidence in choosing specific typefaces and their classification, and also dealing with specific terms and styles. As well, this module will expose students to a wide range of topics from the beginnings of writing and typography to the present day and will also explain some practical skills in working on characters/letters and in the specific software.
In this module students will learn:
better understanding and implementation of typography in other design-related modules. This module is more theory-based, meaning students will need to acknowledge fundamental principles in Typography. The module forms the vital core of the program as it combines basic rules of letters, form, structure, and proportion.
