Technical writing for computer games

Module overview:


The aim of the module is to introduce students to the development of scenarios for storytelling and to develop the skills of adapting storytelling within the process of developing computer games. Along with storytelling techniques, the module´s focus is on mastering the technical side of writing in a writing application compatible with most computer game development engines.
This module is intended primarily for those students who want to acquire skill sets related to the jobs of scriptwriter, game designer, technical designer, project manager, art director, narrative designer, content designer, level designer, producer, game experience designer. This module builds on Narrative Design. The skills learned in this module will significantly contribute to the development of the student as a professional in the respective fields.
The module will be evaluated through a written exam and homework.
Students will learn:
- the difference between interactive and non-interactive stories
- requirements for creating interactive stories
- specific requirements for appropriate stories for computer games
- evaluate the quality and functionality of the story of the computer game
- create and design adequate characters for a computer game
- get acquainted with programs for writing stories and dialogues for computer games
- master the creation of a story structure for various computer games
- master the basics of script writing for a computer game.
