Interpretation and management of cultural heritage

Module overview:
The objectives of the course are:
develop an understanding of the purpose and importance of cultural heritage management in a changing world (globalization, digitization, localization),
to support students in developing a critical understanding of the digital interpretation of cultural heritage (digitization, visualization, interpretation),
enable students to develop an in-depth understanding of the multidimensional role of cultural heritage in tourism and local development,
contextualize the understanding of the role of cultural heritage in terms of implications for policy making and social cohesion.
As part of the course, students will learn that it is heritage that unites cultural aspects from historical, anthropological, ethnic, aesthetic and social points of view. Furthermore, cultural heritage influences creativity and represents the source of numerous cultural goods and services, as well as activities in the field of culture. The course is part of the elective vertical related to creative industries.
It is important for students to attend this course to understand the difference between traditional cultural expressions: arts and crafts, festivals and celebrations, and cultural landmarks: archaeological sites, museums, libraries, exhibitions, etc. Also, the heritage industry is one of the main drivers of global economic growth. Students will also gain knowledge in the fundamental concepts of cultural heritage, the purpose of heritage management and the management of historical sites, historic cities and buildings. Furthermore, for deeper interpretation and understanding, students will use digital interpretation of cultural heritage.
Students will learn about:
the meaning of cultural heritage in the context of the economy,
theories and practices of management in culture,
the role of historical monuments in the context of cultural heritage,
principles and methods of cultural heritage interpretation,
modern tools used in the interpretation and visualization of cultural heritage,
the impact of cultural heritage on the development of tourism and the local economy,
international practices of cultural heritage management.
