Module title:

Drawing 4 - Art structures

Module overview:

The objective of this module is to enable students to learn to:
• understand complex drawing techniques and the development of key factors that define perception and practical skills of drawing
• use theoretical knowledge on complex elements of visual culture and practical improvement of analytical thinking in drawing processes

This module teaches students to create through practical work, the techniques and methods which will ensure the optimal quality of their drawing skills necessary for their design practices. This will be achieved by drawing practices, but not exclusively from direct observation. Apart from the development of drawing skills and analytical thinking, the focus is on the processes of individual organization and selection of ones own points of interest, and the practical execution of such assignments. Art problems will include leaning caricature and stylization theory and creating caricatures and characters in various styles. Emphasis in the module will be placed on creating conceptual art works following students individual preference and to a lesser extent written guidelines mimicking professional work pipelines for conceptual artists with students creating multiple art solutions, keeping deadlines, following feedback and presenting a finished piece.

The module is based on various personal thematical units. The main goal is to offer a wide range of various tasks through which students can develop their perception and transform their observation into drawings processes. The workflow of this module will combine personal and group progresses. During the module, the students will have to produce between 30-50 drawings. Every new assignment will be formed as a continuation of the previous one. Along with practical work, students will have to elaborate and analyse their own practice, as well as the work of others.
