Module title:

Rigging for animation

Lecturers and associates:

Dino Čokljat, Lecturer

Module overview:

The objective of this module is to enable students to learn the:
• methodology of properly creating an animation skeleton which enables them to use their own creations in other modules for posing and animations
• knowledge and skills that can have the general application used with 3D assets

This module offers valuable complementary knowledge and insights to all other modules where the plastic anatomy of humanoid creatures is present in the artworks being created. The knowledge and skills of properly creating an animation skeleton for various types of animations and characters are vital to understand and practice for any animation purposes. A wide range of problems concerning the creation of bipedal, quadrupedal, and multi-jointed creatures skeletons are being studied in individual projects and applied to projects worked on in other modules. This module relates to the programme as a vital core for understanding 3D modelling in creative industries.

In this module, students learn and practice the setting up, configuration, and using various controllers, the skinning process and illustrating the weight of the skin, and various other techniques of rigging, for the precise animation of their characters. This module is vital for all students aiming to be professional animators of any kind and also makes a strong contribution to any figurative artist as it gives them tools to better understand the industry environment their work is in and the process it is going through. The knowledge and skills acquired here are also crucial to students for presenting their work (through posing and animation).
