Another guest lecture at Algebra

At the College of Algebra, we really like guest lectures and guest lecturers!

On May 3rd, students of the 3rd year of the System Engineering enjoyed a guest lecture on the topic of practical experiences in the application of wireless computer networks, as part of the course "Implementation of local wireless computer networks".

The guest lecturers were Danijel Šurina and Luka Babajko from the company Infinigate founded in 1996 and grown into an international company with about 1,250 employees in 30 countries and an annual revenue of more than 2 billion US dollars.

In the introductory part of the lecture, Danijel Šurina emphasized the importance of practical work during the studies and the value of industrial certificates that Algebra students can acquire. Industrial certificates are not important only to students, but also to companies that via employees' certificates can prove their partnership status with ICT technology manufacturers. Danijel also emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and investing in one's own development, another value that is extremely important to us at Algebra.

At this lecture, our students became more familiar with a very instructive case study of one of the largest implementations of a wireless computer network in the world. This project lasted 3 years and was developed in more than 900 locations for the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia (ARNES). During the project, a wireless computer network with more than 22,000 wireless access points managed by more than 20 virtual controllers of the Fortinet management system was implemented.

Danijel Šurina pointed out security, simplicity and intelligent management as essential elements of wireless computer networks projects, but also of ICT systems in general. He added that today's wireless computer networks are so advanced that they support practically all the key functionalities of the wired infrastructure. However, they also have many additional specific mechanisms such as Location tracking, Rogue AP detection and these characteristics are increasingly popular in the application of wireless computer networks.

Judging by the questions and engagement of our students, this was a very interesting and useful lecture. Similar ones will soon follow!
