Course overview

The aim of this module is to teach students additional techniques for making visual effects compared to the module "Visual effects development 1". The knowledge gained in this course is upgraded with additional techniques for creating visual effects: using 2D animations and advanced techniques for creating shaders. Students will learn how to create shaders and how to parameterize them for the purpose of creating visual effects in computer games. They will learn to use visual effects, and graph editors. Based on examples of good practices, they will learn when which technique is suitable for creating visual effects in computer games.
This module is a natural extension of the acquired knowledge and skills in the "Visual effects development 1" module. New techniques are learned and new knowledge is added to existing knowledge. By combining all learned techniques of making visual effects, students will be able to understand how all kinds of visual effects are created in computer games. A computer game developer will implement visual effects in computer games, so it is important to know the basics of the technique and terminology of creating visual effects.

Content

Students will learn:
• advanced techniques for creating visual effects in computer games
• create visual effects based on 2D animation
• create visual effects using shaders
• basic techniques for creating shaders
• create graphs of visual effects
• create stylized visual effects
• good practices of creating visual effects using 2D animations and shaders
• optimize the execution of visual effects.
