Course overview

Students will learn how to implement principles such as:
• Create, administer and manage KVM and vSphere based environments
• Centralized management of KVM and vSphere based environment
• Network, storage and balancing configuration for KVM and vSphere based environment

This module is important for students as it's their second module related to virtualization, one of the most fundamental aspects of IT today. Students will extend and expand their knowledge of virtualization by learning how to user KVM and vSphere to virtualize various workloads, based on supported guest operating systems.

After successfully passing this module students will be able to implement and maintain KVM and vSphere based environment. Students will also be able to correctly configure various aspects of virtualized storage, networking and high availability, necessary for virtual machines to get to a higher availability level.

  • Evaluate the possibilities of using open operating systems virtualization solutions.
  • Establish the concept of object database management in a virtual environment
  • Recommend the configuration of virtual networks, storage systems, replication systems and migration using open operating systems.
  • Assess the possibilities of using virtualization using commercial solutions (e.g. VMware or Oracle virtualization platforms)
  • Recommend configuration of virtual networks, storage systems, replication systems and migration for commercial solutions (eg VMware or Oracle virtualization platform).
  • Support the implementation of high availability of the selected virtualized environment.
  • Assess the possibility of using dynamic load balancing in virtualized environments.
