It’s not a secret that the rapid development of digital society and economy is making the education on computing and software engineering an even hotter topic to discuss. The post pandemic world will face more software engineering education and teaching connected with Metaverse, focus more on virtual simulation teaching mode, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Autonomous System, Internet of Things, as well as core and virtual teaching resources for software engineering education.

The promotion of China’s characteristic demonstration software schools will further deepen the Chinese development of software engineering education. Through the One-Belt and One-Road initiative, China and the Europe will have a closer cooperation. Through more exchanges, China and the Europe can further strengthen cooperation in software industry, digital economy, IT industry and talent training, to face today’s environment of new changes, new technology, new economy, and new features.

Since 2005, CEISEE has already held its seventeenth session in China and Europe, and CEISEE has become one of the excellent platforms for the attendees from educational institutes, software industry and educational authorities across Europe and China to exchange their visions and wisdom, to share their experience, and to discuss their approaches for the industry-oriented software education.

The theme of CEISEE 2022 is “How the Metaverse is Shaping the Future of Education”, especially the blooming of artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, block chain, Service Science, Robotics, Autonomous System, IoT etc. Scope of the conference ranges from knowledge body and curriculum to the industry-university collaboration, to make the symposium more valuable and inspiring to the software engineering education community. The conference aims to explore the new approaches for software engineering education, including new software engineering related specialty programs and curriculum, cross-disciplinary education, cooperation between universities and industry, online education and e-learning, innovative entrepreneurship practice, international cooperation on education, education and teaching with Metaverse, AI + education and teaching, and other relevant topics.


The China-Europe International Symposium on Software Engineering Education (CEISEE) was evolved from the China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education (CEISIE, CEIS-SIOE), which was founded in 2005, according to rapid development of software engineering education in both China and Europe.

The China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education was initialized from an international education project, EMERSION project (Education to Meet the Requirements of Software Industry and Beyond- Establishing, Implementing and Evaluating an Industry Oriented Education Model in China) which is supported by ‘Asia-Link Programme’ of European Commission, with the collaboration of Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT, present Technological University, Dublin) in Ireland and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in China. During the EMERSION project, the members would like to share educational achievements and experience with more universities and institutes in Europe and China.

In January 2005, the 1st China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry Oriented Education was held in HIT, Harbin, China. The initial abbreviation of the symposium was CEIS-SIOE. In 2006, the 2nd CIES-SIOE was again held in HIT, Harbin. In that conference, it was decided that this conference should be held each year in exchanged side of either China or Europe. Then the 3rd Symposium was held in DIT, Dublin, Ireland, in 2007. The initial abbreviation of the symposium was changed from CEIS-SIOE into CEISIE. The 4th CEISIE symposium was held in Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China, in 2008. The 5th CEISIE symposium was held in University of Bordeaux 1, Bordeaux, France, in 2009. The 6th CEISIE symposium took place in Northwestern Poly-Technical University, Xi’an, China, in 2010. The 7th CEISIE symposium was held in University of Northampton, Northampton, UK, in 2011. Then it was decided to change the name of the symposium from CEISIE into CEISEE (China-Europe International symposium on Software Engineering Education), in order to extend the scopes of the conference and to emphasize development of software engineering discipline. The 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th CEISEE symposium was held by Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China in 2012, University of Pavia, Milan, Italy in 2013, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China in 2014, Applied University Zwickau, Zwickau, Germany in 2015, Northeastern University, Shenyang, China in 2016, University of Derby (UK), Athens, Greece in 2017, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen in 2018, Lisbon, Portugal in 2019, and Beijing in 2020 respectively.

The CEISEE aims at exploring new approach to develop software engineering discipline and education in both China and Europe, according to the changing tendency of technical development of software engineering and educational requirements of the software talents all over the world. The CEISEE is a good platform for the educators, industrialists and governmental officers related to software engineering education to exchange their ideas, share their experience, and develop their academic community in this domain.

The CEISIE/CEISEE symposiums were very successful and attracted great attentions from educators, industrialists and governmental officers, who are interested in software engineering education, in both China and Europe. Until now, more than 1200 participants from 24 countries, e.g. China, Ireland, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Russia, USA, Australia, Croatia, etc. have attended symposiums.
