Interdisciplinarity by Design: Building the Future University
16 – 20 March 2026
Zagreb, Croatia

The evolution of Algebra Bernays University is an excellent example of the development of interdisciplinarity in practice. Initially established as a STEM-oriented educational institution, the University gradually expanded its focus toward the STEAM model, integrating the arts and the social dimension. The eventual merger with Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences created an opportunity for systematically incorporating additional social perspectives into education and research. This transformation clearly demonstrates how interdisciplinarity can be developed strategically – through the merging of disciplines, joint study programs, and new forms of collaboration among teaching and professional communities. During International Week 2026, this evolution will be presented as a concrete example of how interdisciplinarity becomes a cornerstone of institutional identity and future development.

International Week 2026 – Interdisciplinarity by Design is conceived in a way that, through its very structure, embodies the principles it promotes. It combines lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and open formats for exchanging experiences, enabling participants to learn through practice and collaboration. Methodologically, the program is based on the principles of peer learning and co-creation: participants are not merely recipients of content, but also its co-authors. This approach enables dialogue between different institutional profiles—teachers, researchers, and administrative staff – and connects the levels of policy, organization, and everyday work. In this way, International Week becomes a space for collective learning about how interdisciplinarity can become an integral part of university life, rather than just a declarative value.

Building on this, during International Week 2026, we will discuss the policies, institutional strategies, and practical mechanisms that enable the development of authentic interdisciplinarity – both in teaching and within governance and administrative frameworks.
